Last week with the lens...

Snapped a Jay doing anting from the kitchen window.

Saw a Swan at the local park...

...where the coots were not fighting for once...

...and then got to work on a feather...

Found some gulls.

Friday turned autumnal with a load of Med Gulls on the patch, and a porpoise or two in the sea.

And all nicely rounded up with a Marsh Harrier.  Well it is Norfolk...

The light was promised yesterday, but never came.  What usually happens in this situation is resorting to baiting gulls...

Med Gull

I've been taking photos of Med Gulls at a location know to Norfolkians (that isn't Yarmouth) for a few years with varying degrees of success.  It may well be the same gull, but at my last visit there was two birds.  Which was nice.  This is one of them.

Gulls

A shot of lots of gulls on a very windy day at Sea Palling from earlier in the year - somewhere in that lot there is a Glaucous Gull, or three.

Strange ringed gull

Was taking photos of gulls, like you do, and when going through the delete-delete-delete phase I noticed that this one had a small red ring on it's leg but not metal ring on it's other leg.  To my surprise the European colour-ring Birding site came up blank.  Any ideas?

I took this today.  That blue stuff in the background, I understand that this is what you can see if you look up and there is no cloud.  I have a passing memory of this...

Gull pictures and tongue strangeness

Gull watching is not just about sifting through Herring Gulls and stringing all the 1st winter birds into rare Eastern subspecies, no it is not.  Well not generally anyway.  

This unfortunate looking thing is neither here nor there, but most certainly on it's way there.  The remnants of the winter plumage and the summer plumage at the base of the beak not catching  up with the rest of the moult give it a bit of a scrappy feel, but this is a very healthy bird.

Herring Gull calling

Gull watching yesterday lunchtime, nothing much to report. Good enough reason for some recycled Gull photos, from late in  2012.

This weather really is getting boring now, no point taking the camera anywhere as the light is so poor.  

Here is a picture of a Med Gull in flight that shows some nice details on the primaries that are not always seen.
